image

Hello I’m writing another update review, this its on Groove Coaster 2 formally known as Groove Coaster Zero. There Have been plenty of cool updates to the game that brings it more flavor like

  • you can now use the mic on your tablet or smartphone to march to the beat whether by tapping on desks, clapping your hands or even singing to it (if you can)
  • There are missions to complete which gives you more motivation to complete stages by earning tracks, bonuses, and even music, and new avatars
  • There is a new arcade mode which utilizes you to use to fingers instead of just one (some you have buy 0.99 for)

So yeah thats pretty much it, you can friend me on the game by typing the same nae as my tumblr account and I will accept your request 9i’m currently trying to get to the 70s in levels)

The worst book I ever read

image

August in the year 2000, Harry Potter has won many children into reading books for leisure in decades and Pokemon is at its peak. Then came along this book by televangelist Phill Arms (The preacher from the Pokemon Power video) who is out on a crusade to free us from imagination and gave christians of all circles a bad name. There is so much fail in this book i’ll review it chapter by chapter

Emi-San reviews Fantasy Life

I love Fantasy, The Dragons, The Magic, The Alchemy , The Knights, The Mystical Creatures, and The Sword Battles. Most often associated in taking place in the medieval times of yore fantasy can take place in any era if there is anything mythical going on (Such as the Space Fantasy sub genre). Fantasy Life is all about living that lifestyle so lets jump into the review.

Emi-San reviews a bunch of iPad games vol 3

When you get these reviews, it means I’m on vacation So here are some reviews and others in my queue (and other things to keep you enjoyed)

image

Ahh yes Grim Fandango, I heard many of great things about this point and click adventure, glad to say it met my expectations. I love the mix of Mexican culture and neo noir conspiracies, its unique art design, memorable characters and very witty dialogue. Sadly the score is lowered with screen flickers, couple of non game breaking glitches and finicky controls, though it does have commentary and tricky puzzles (9/10)

image

Bastion is in interesting game, I really like the storybook like presentation and watching the world slowly build together and the story is pretty tragic (its the only Post Apocalyptic anything I like) Though the gameplay has some death like activating god statues for added difficulty, bring in some drinks, upgrading your weapons, the combat is nothing to special (8/10)

image

Leo’s Fortune tells a tale of a fluff ball gathering a trial of gold coins to find his stolen gold, but soon he learns what is truly golden in this platform puzzler to puff up to float and bounce around each different world are you ready to enjoy the stage? (7/10)

image

The game is um Pretentious is like Thomas is Alone with more light and playing different characters for each Level Pack (it originated as four different flash games) though the platforming is awesome and challenging and story moving, paying money for levels with wallpapers and soundtrack included even though I can play each for free? i’ll pass (5/10)

image

Arc Squadron is Star Fox lite, with plenty of upgrades, skins, powerups and buying stronger ships for easier kills and smooth controls, what more do you need? how about the game being completely free with no ads to distract you (there in app purchase store is no more for some reason) so expect to grind for points (9/10)

image

If you’re interested in learning about the history of font types and beautiful levels inspired by those same fonts? Them Type Rider is for you! but make sure you choose the button options for the best platforming experience , Oh and its pretty relaxing to boot (7/10)

image

This is one of my first game to got me interested in gaming and this game will make you feel you’re in Limbo for its countless deaths of the poor kid which I enjoyed viewing for one time, thank goodness this game has no lives system and I would of quit along time ago (luckily im zen in mood) though I give credit when its due that it popularize the atmospheric puzzle platformer that I enjoyed better (6/10)

image

Frederic has gained a negative reputation thanks to its shoddy Wii U release, but if you put that and the stereotypes aside the Frederic Franchise is like Deemo expect really ridiculous and you only play music composed by Frederic which are nicely remix with its setting (7/10)

image

This game is what made me fall in love with Vocaloid, It’s a unique rhythm game when switch you flick Japanese letter to the corresponding Lyric while trying your best not to be distracted by the music videos though I had to get used to Cool being the highest good ranking Teehee. I recommend getting the second game as you can buy more tracks including the ones from the first but beware it takes A TON of bytes (10/10)

Bonus DS Games

image

You are an unnamed detective investigating 8 different crimes in NYC while finding your partners sister on the side, and if you answered all the queries you can unlock a bonus one that is the trickiest of them all. It was alright and barely even remember it (2/10)

image

This is the worst DS game I ever played, The story is boring, your points go down for every minor thing, and don’t get me started on that finicky tape (1/10)

image

From the game company that gave you Jake Hunter comes a DS game based on the Theresia cell phone games (or even a port of them) this game is separated into two chapters Dear Emile and Dear Martel, there something about a man made virus killing everyone in the church, mansion thing, A psychotic mother, and a man regretting killing someone. Anyway this game is tough, you don’t know which one is a trap and switch one is fine and boy is this game a maze with a aesthetic of old PC games like Wolfenstein and maybe Doom and good luck finding any health, your going to need it though I like the Catholic themes and tricky puzzles so if your sadist enough go ahead (3/10)

Now if you Excuse me I’m going to think about Phantom R dancing with or challenging against the Vocaloids

The worst game I ever played

image

I love the Rugrats, it’s one of my favorite cartoons of all time with the unique premise of viewing the world in the babies perspective and I still enjoy it to this day. There are at least two Rugrats video games that I used to own, one is The Mario Party Rip-off Rugrats Scavenger Hunt which is a guilty pleasure of mine and the other is the picture above Rugrats the Movie…The Game

Reasons for the suckeness first off is the music (minus the Rugrats intro which is pretty accurate) that loops to infinity is sounds like a bunch of dumb babies playing on a keyboard trying to understand how composition works, the visuals although show accurate has this one color and small white font still in between levels will make your eyes feel they been run over by a car, I don’t remember the controls very well, but I think it’s floaty but biggest reason for me hating the game so much is its gameplay.

The gameplay is that you are you are walking this sort of free roaming level and collect things in order to progress through the game, but the problem is that the game doesn’t tell you how many you have to collect for each level my six year old self never made it past Tommy’s backyard, what makes it worse is that you can’t defend your self in anyway, shape or form of you have to spent your time trying to dodge enemies cause if you get hit by them some of your items will go away, get hit enough times and it’s game over. :D YAY

I completely forgot the games total existence entirely until a stumbled upon a TV Tropes page that listed a game called Rugrats Time Travelers, did some research on it and I realized that it’s the exact same game as Rugrats the movie except better looking and it brought back memories of the game since, Thanks TV Tropes

TLDR: this game is a disgrace to platformers everywhere and makes baby Mario cry

Jake Hunter Detective Story: Memories of the Past Review
image

The NES/Famicom is home to many a game icon: Mario, Zelda and Link, Samus, Nintin of the mother series, Solid Snake, the duck hunting dog, the Ice Climbers, the cast of Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest, and Mega man, but there’s a gaming icon that is largely forgotten, in fact he made his debut in the US just recently despite over twenty years of popularity in Japan with 2,200,000 copies sold during its lifetime.

His name is Jake Hunter a.k.a Tantei Jingūji Saburō

image

Developed by Data East in 1987 for the Famicom Disk System it stars Jake Hunter. A heavy Marlboro smoking, Cognec drinking, hard-boiled private detective with a warm heart to those close to him who runs an agency from Aspicio. (Shinjuku Tokyo) Together with his assistant Yulia Marks, and police inspector Scott Kingsley they solve a variety of cases like murder, missing persons, burglaries etc. What sets it apart from most adventure games at the time is that the stories are more gritter and actually felt like detective stories of old, not to mention the graphics and sound quality of the games.

Years later Data East went bankrupt and the games are now produced by Workjam and the games are made for the Playstation, Saturn, GBA, Cellphones, DS, PSP, and 3Ds. It finally made is debut in America in 2008 under the name Jake Hunter Detective Chronicles translated by Aksys. (famous for localizing 999 doors and its sequel Zero Escape, and the Guilty Gear, Blazblue, and Bit Trip series) I haven’t played it but I heard that Detective Chronicles is a disaster with a shoddy translation and cutting 3 cases and special content entirely, so as an apology Aksys re-released the game as Jake Hunter Detective Story which is so much better, Okay enough history Lesson time to start the review

image

The game has a total of six cases 4 of which are remakes of the original Famicom games, one is a remake from a cell-phone game, and the last is an original game that uses the cases as files. Well here are the cases

  1. The Petty Murder of the Fragile Heart is the first game in the Jake Hunter series when which you have to solve a murder of a popular hostess whose body is found in Asipicio Central Park. The story is predictable by today’s standards but in 1987 it was pretty hardcore
  2. Seaside City Conspiracy starts out as a missing persons case but it quickly turns into a case of a smuggling ring selling knock off guns
  3. Crash and Burn is a flip flop of old friends that changed overtime for better or worse, friends turn to enemies its hard to explain without spoiling. If you ever get a chance to play detective chronicles this is the best case for it mostly for the development of Yulia Marks (even though i’m not a sports fan)
  4. As Time goes by has Jake Hunter investigating an art theft case and Yulia Marks finds a boy who is searching for his mom but as the case gets deeper the two eventually becomes one. This is my favoirte case not just for the story but for the interactions of King, Jake, and Yulia, oh I forgot that there is a dog named Lenny
  5. The Red-Eyed Tiger has Jake investigating a case for his old friend about the robbery of Zero an illegal Casino run by the Sventatori, then there is the little girl who is sent by that same friend to take care until the case is settled. Oh Boy this case is a whopper, I was on the edge until case went to a satisfying conclusion. Really loved it
  6. Memories of The Past: Has Jake being framed for a crime he diddnt commit as you play as a boy named Ken, a 23 year old nerdy bum who wrecks a former Sventatori members car with his bike, thus getting the case files from Jakes office and dropping a suitcase filled with knockoff guns. In order to get the codes you have to play the cases from the Memories case and choose the good options. oh and the case is suspenseful
    image

The games are extremely linear and the run length of each case is at a minimum of two hours and you can’t lose at the game (that is not the case with the earlier games that if you don’t solve the case on time, its game over) there is a hint system in which Jake smokes a cigarette to clear his mind which might roll eyes for people who hate the stuff but the gimmick made me chuckle because it makes Jake Hunter looked dated, the real challenge you can get is the quiz in which you answer of everything you learn like Hotel Dusk but you need to pay attention to the story so no prob. The Dialogue tries to make the game gritty but comes off as unintentional hilarity with Jakes use of old terms like Dollface, Your a real peach and naming his phone Marcy, and Kingsley is so stereotypically British, and the fact that they change the location from Japan to America is face palm worthy since the pictures are of actual Japanese buildings (I don’t mind name changes though) and the artwork of the characters are muddy and not good looking, like I know this is a tribute to the gritter detective stories but it doesn’t mean that the sprites looked like they been dragged from a dumpster.

image

The real meat of the game is the special features hidden by passwords like listing to the catchy soundtrack, art posters, staff interviews etc. and a whole new set of cases called Jake Unleashed. a set of short cases though more comedic and colorful its much harder than the main game in which you look at evidence and interview suspects and deduce on who done it, but if you get a single question wrong you have to start all over again so save often on those, and after you beat it you can search for alternate endings so they have more replay value than the main course in fact I like them better then the main cases because of that

image

TLDR: Jake Hunter is an underrated gaming icon, with stories that pump the Adrenalin, interesting characters, and nice photo backgrounds and I wish that Arksys can translate the 3Ds title Mondo of Revenge. Maybe even some fan translations of his previous titles. Unfortunately due to the limited release of Detective Story, the negative reputation of Detective Chronicles, and Detective games that capture the same appeal of gritty hard-boiled stories but updated to modern sensibilities (Kyle Hide of Hotel Dusk) that Jake Hunter will never get the chance to come overseas again and I gave the game a 7/10

whoa, I haven’t wrote a review this long since Dr. Lautrec but I wanted to share the games history since most people never heard of it. but I’ill give you this source which explain the game much better than I did so thanks for reading

(the Japanese cover is better trust me)

Cing is the company responsible for the Hotel Dusk franchise where you play as former New York cop Kyle Hyde, he’s basically the anti-Layton, ruff, rude, lazy, sarcastic, but when he gets his ass off to investigating he wants to get to the bottom of it, most of its puzzles uses almost every feature of the DS, like R /L button, flipping switches at the same time, and simply closing the Ds flap, and the pencil sketch art style of the series is really unique in a game and gives me hope that Japan can do more than the standard big eyes, triangle chin and nose that the anime industry churns out

How’s that got to do with Again? well Again is made by the same people from Cing which went bankrupt when one of there games went over budget, while Europe got the Last Window the 2nd Hotel Dusk game and the Trace Memory Wii game, North America got Again which is about an investigator in the fictional city of Clockford Pennsylvania with the power to see the past and present at the same time when a murder is involved. so does this game live up to CIngs excellence or is it the Black sheep of the Company lets find out

                                                          (our cast)

The Pros:

  • I like the Magazine cut out animations of the characters.
  • Its of the few games that uses FMV sparsely and correctly
  • unlike Hotel Dusk and Last Window when have to go constantly back and forth, You drive a car around to any destination you wish
  • some of the tracks are creepy
  • I love the whole see the past and present at the same time mechanic

The Cons:

  • other then the main characters past, and the true villain, all the characters have the personally of sock puppets
  • The dialogue is really boring, and a pain to go through when solving the case
  • If your a veteran of crime drama, then you find the plot predictable
  • Except for the sliding puzzle, and using the blow torch to melt a certain of a grate I think, the puzzles is basically Hotel Desk for babies.image                               (oooh, Green Light)

The Verdect: This game is made with the Western audience in mind and it shows, I feel like cing just binged watch all seasons of CSI and made a script on that, the past/future mechanic is the only thing noteworthy about the game, so I give it a 4/10, and i’ll end this review by giving you guys a treat of beta screenshots I found of the game

Time Hollow Review
image

I have to admit, time travel gives me a headache. I’m the type a person who wants to keep track of a timeline to make sense of its world and how it evolved overtime, but I’m keeping this review short because these type of games that if I give any plot away it would be a spoiler (it’s one of the reasons why I wont review Ghost Trick unless someone request it) but I talk to long so here I go

The Pros:

  • The hollow pen is a nice use of the DS stylus, I just like drawing circles
  • I kind of like the more comic book kind of screenshots that appear when events unfold at the same time
  • The animated cutscenes for what little there is is well animated
  • I really Love the opening music of Time Hollow nuff said

The Cons:

  • This is more hysterical thing than an annoyance, since the characters use the pen so much (most of it off screen) that i’m surprised that the space time continuum didn’t collapsed on itself
  • The characters except for the cat are just there, nothing memorable about them
  • The character designs are basically your typical anime design of today which is bland
  • For a visual novel, this game is surprisingly short

The Verdict: Time Hollow gave me a small headache, I enjoyed the game for whats its worth, the last names although it has punny  last names at least it matches the time travel theme of the game. If you looking for a visual novel game but not one that is super long I recommend the game, but for me I give this game a (4/10) now if you excuse me I’m going to go draw some circles

I haven’t been doing reviews for a awhile now, so i’m doing these quickies to get the hang on reviewing back again, OK here I go

image

Deemo right beside Mystery Room and Rhythm Thief as one of my favorite apps of all time, All of the music are all well made, the controls on the rhythm part is perfect, and an open ended story that is complex once to you start to think about it. (9/10)

image

Year Walk is a beautiful came in which walk around the snowy forest in order to receive a vision from the future, while a short game it has many creepy elements, and a companion app to learn more about Swedish mythos, oh and don’t forget the puzzles. (7/10)

image

Device game is a unique novel game, which showcase what tablets can do, I plot is pretty hard to explain but its puzzling, the words in the game is like a maze in itself like when the main character goes left you read left, when she turns around the words turn around, oh and keep an eyes on the pictures, they might reveal hints on puzzles (8/10)

image

The Curse is more of a casual puzzle game than its Layton counterpart, it has a total of 100 puzzles (15 extra for valentines day) the story is pretty simple, you accidentally cursed yourself by opening a book containing a trickster called the mannequin and you need to solve the puzzles and get the 20 cogs for the final puzzle to free yourself from it. I just love the mannequins voice and sense of humor (hijacking and draining your phone’s battery, making fun of the adds that comes with a free app) I just wish there is more of a story (6/10)

image

It may not be an iOS title, but Harmoknight is a cute title that proves Game Freak can make more than Pokemon titles, with catchy tunes, a mix of combat and a simple story that just makes me want to re downloaded again (10/10)

image

I migt of a full review of this game in the future if you guys request it, but to keep it short its just as good as its Nintendo bretherin (10/10)

whoa thats alot to review

Level 5 Guild Review

All right time to review the Guild series of games, from my least favorite to my all time favorite, so here i go

image
Aero Perter is a decent plane simulator game, but as the levels go on it soon became to hard to manage for me, its not my type of game (4/10)
image

This game could have been higher on the list, if not for relying on chance and hitting the right type of enemy to advance through the game, the story that I know so far is nice, the figures look awesome, and using dice brings out the inner geek in me (5/10)

image

Liberation Maiden is a fun little shooter when I ever have an adrenalin rush, the main theme song is catchy, and who doesn’t want a kick ass president. (although being a high school age president is pretty ridiculous) (5/10)

image

Bugs vs Tanks is my guilty pleasure game, and possibly the only game that I know of that let you play as the Nazis (though not called that in the game) and I really hate bugs so killing them with tanks brings a smile to my face (7/10)

image

Starship Damrey is not really a scary game, I found the game to be relaxing, your piloting a droid, in a war wrecked spaceship, zapping big germ creatures, figuring out to get out of your sleep, with dead bodies for good measure (8/10)

image

Weapon Shop is the funniest game I ever played, with hero’s ranging from awesome grandma, to a disgraced samurai, and even an anime hero who is a fake. The love the relationship between father and son, the dialogue when ever your customers go on a quest, and matching the rhythms of making your weapon and make or break your customer. (9/10)

image

Attack of the Friday Monsters is my absolute favorite Guild game, taking place during the 1970s when monster and sentai entertainment is popular, the card designs look cool, a very cute plot and characters, and the setting is very atmospheric. That game truly made me feel like a kid again (10/10)

thanks for reading
