LEVEL-5 IS PURE NIGHTMARE FUEL
Why I prefer the Prequel Trilogy part 1

  1. I feel that Professor Layton and Luke are much more developed in the prequels than the original, in fact the only development Layton ever got was in Unwound Future, (the NPC’s have more character in the originals than the protagonist’s ever have in the first 2 games)
  2. Not only is Emmy much more useful than Flora (she is so underused) but is also one of the few female video game characters that is not a damsel in distress/annoying girlfriend/sex object, while Flora is basically the Princess Peach of the PL universe (Professor Layton not letting Flora go on his adventures just rub me the wrong way)
  3. At least Descole is an actual arch nemesis to Layton since they are both archaeologists, while Don Paolo I don’t even consider him a threat at all, just a guy who is causes trouble because he’s a petty thief, trying to kill a guy because the girl of your dreams choose another guy is a pathetic motivation (at least Descole as an actual motivation in PL6 which contains heartbreaking spoilers)
  4. I feel that the one time characters have much more importance to the development of the protagonists than the one times of the first 2 games
  5. I think that the prequels are a little bit darker than the originals (who knew Luke was a creepy child, two kids have to fend for themselves when their dad past away, a masked creep turning people into stone and horses, lifting them up in the sky, and almost killing Luke by hanging him up the wall, and HE’s THE GOOD GUY in the end, a MIND RAPE MACHINE, and don’t get me started on PL6)
  6. The prequels actually build up for something and makes the games connected to a bigger story to unfold, (and uses layton’s profession, archaeology) while the originals are separate adventures

The reason why i’m writing this is because I have been in the minority opinion ever since middle school, in my first two years of high school, while my classmates bash the Wii for whatever reason I barely understand, I like to say that the Xbox sucks, but I can’t because I don’t want to start a fight, it made me feel like an outcast, a sore thumb, and pure loneliness. I just want the people who prefers, or even likes both trilogies to have a voice, since I been noticing on gaming forums, Tumblr, and even Devaintat whine about how a character is not treated properly in their view (I just want to admire your artwork, not read about your sob story on how the games didn’t go your way) I guess I’m easily offended/take things to seriously/personally

The sad part of all of this is that Akihiro Hino’s reason for making the prequels is because of fan demand that they want more Layton, he really put out all of his heart and soul in each game he produces, each one better than the next in his opinion, and the way the vocal fans are not pleased with the result, know matter how hard it is to write a good story, produce a playable game, and create well developed characters is basically a slap in the face, spit in the eye, and flipping him and Level-5 off just to cater to the very people who want more Layton (either that or am just Mr. Hino’s, and Level-5’s pet)

I don’t agree with some of the things are handled in the prequel trilogy, but eventually I got used to it, not let it bother me, and move on, because by the end of the day its Hino’s creation and he can do whatever he wants with it, and their children’s games, what can be predictable to some people, maybe unpredictable to another, and sometimes, when i’m in the minority opinion, I even question my taste in stories (do I prefer predictable story lines?, do I prefer Darker or Softer tones, either that or i’m a sucker for origin stores/character’s past)
