I can accept that the merchandise and sales are definitely not going to be the same as when Yokai Watch was at its full peak craze in Japan, (which is, what, like 4-5ish years ago now??), but to claim that the games have no depth, especially compared to Pokemon, is crazy silly. Also, you can’t complain about YW not being consistent when these reviewers will always negatively critique Pokemon for following the same basic formula for the past 20 years.
Yokai Watch has depth (stats, typing, natures) if you choose to look for it, but it isn’t necessary. Same with Pokemon. You can cruise through Pokemon without worrying too much about anything more than how cute your team is, or you can go full blown stats and IVs and breeding and shiny hunting. The depth is there for both franchises, it’s just ultimately up to the player to decide whether or not to go down that road. This article feels cherry picked at best, and like only an incremental amount of research was done, just to prove the authors point.
