Some random person: Yo-kai Watch is too Japanese to be popular outside of Japan.
Me:And what exactly is too Japanese about Yo-kai Watch? Having creatures that cause you to feel a certain way or are the reason why certain these happen in life? The fact that Yo-kai Watch is a heavily friendship based show and teaches kids to make friends and respect the yo-kai and they will probably respect you back?Simply having a series that takes place in Japan doesn’t make it “too Japanese” or too hard for kids outside of that country to understand. And even if Yo-kai Watch was very heavily based in Japanese culture what would be so wrong with trying to make it popular with kids outside of Japan and try to teach them about other cultures around the world? We will never get to that point if people just keep refusing to show kids anything that can’t be passed off as American.
